Quality Preview

Preview GetWebP compression settings before writing generated WebP or AVIF files to your WordPress uploads folder.

Quality Preview

The free WordPress plugin does not automatically optimize new uploads. It is built for manual, reviewable optimization: choose settings, preview a sample, then run the batch you want to write.

Connect the site to a free GetWebP account first. The current admin UI requires the connection before preview, scan, or optimization actions are enabled.

When to Use Preview#

Use preview before a large Media Library run, after changing presets, or before enabling AVIF output. It gives you a quick visual check before generated files are saved to uploads.

Open the Preview#

  1. Go to GetWebP in WordPress admin.
  2. Confirm the site is connected to a GetWebP account.
  3. Open Settings.
  4. Choose Balanced, Aggressive, or Ultra.
  5. Set an optional max width for very large images.
  6. Click Preview quality.

What Preview Does#

GetWebP samples up to five eligible unoptimized JPEG, PNG, or BMP Media Library images and processes them in the administrator's browser. No generated files are saved during preview.

The preview helps you compare:

  • visual quality
  • estimated file-size reduction
  • resize impact when max width is enabled
  • WebP and optional AVIF output choices

Credits#

Preview does not consume monthly credits because it does not write files. Credits are consumed when an attachment is actually optimized and generated files are saved.

Preview is still available only when the site is connected and the service status allows optimization to continue. If the account is disconnected or credits are exhausted, reconnect or wait for reset before previewing again.

Free limits:

  • 100 monthly optimization credits
  • 20 images per browser batch

New Uploads#

New uploads are not optimized automatically in the free plugin. To optimize newly uploaded images, open GetWebP, scan the Media Library, and run a manual batch or single-image action.
