Free Plugin Scope
The GetWebP WordPress.org plugin is a complete free plugin. Its advertised core workflow does not require an account, license key, paid subscription, monthly credits, or a remote service connection.
Included in the Free Plugin#
- full-library, selected-image, and single-attachment manual scans
- browser-local WebP generation for eligible JPEG, PNG, and BMP inputs
- optional AVIF generation for compatible workflows
- quality preview before generated files are written
- Balanced, Aggressive, and Ultra compression presets
- optional max-width resizing
- recent run history, retry, rebuild, and undo
- generated-file cleanup and attachment-deletion cleanup
- Media Library status and attachment actions
- standard WordPress HTML and
srcsetdelivery for generated WebP files - Multisite compatibility and WP-CLI status reporting
No feature in this list is unlocked by supplying a license key or purchasing a plan.
No Usage Credits or Paid-Unlock Batch Cap#
The Free plugin does not meter monthly optimizations and does not stop work because an account balance is exhausted. It also does not impose a commercial per-batch cap that is removed by payment.
Very large images and libraries still consume browser memory and time. Use smaller selections when appropriate and keep the GetWebP admin tab open while a batch runs.
Intentional Product Boundaries#
The Free plugin is manual and administrator-controlled:
- it does not monitor or automatically optimize new uploads
- it does not start a server-side or cloud background queue
- it does not upload images to an external optimizer
- it does not write
.htaccessor Nginx rewrite rules - it does not automatically serve generated AVIF files on the frontend
These are documented workflow boundaries, not features withheld behind payment inside the WordPress.org plugin.
