Chrome Extension FAQ

No. Every conversion runs locally inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your images never touch a server, and the extension does not require network access to operate.

Yes. GetWebP runs entirely offline. The WebAssembly converter is bundled inside the extension and makes zero network requests during conversion.

Squoosh requires you to open a website and drag files manually. TinyPNG uploads your images to a remote server. GetWebP integrates into your right-click context menu and converts locally — no tab switching, no uploads, nothing leaves your device.

The GetWebP extension runs on any Chromium-based browser — Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera, and Vivaldi. A Firefox version is not available yet.

PNG, JPG, GIF, and BMP are converted into WebP. You can also export to JPG or PNG from the extension popup if you need a traditional format.

No artificial limit. Conversion is bounded only by available browser memory — files up to several hundred MB work fine on most machines.

Yes. Drag a folder onto the extension popup, or select multiple files from the file picker. Each file is processed in parallel using WebAssembly with no size-per-file limit enforced by the extension.

Converted files download through your browser's standard Downloads folder. Your original image is never modified — the WebP sits alongside it with a new extension.

Yes. The popup exposes a quality slider (1–100) that maps to the underlying WebP encoder. Lower values produce smaller files; 80–85 is the recommended balance.
