GetWebP is built on a 'Local-First' architecture. We physically cannot see, upload, or process your files. Everything happens in your browser.
No Servers Involved
Unlike other tools, we don't upload your images to a cloud server. All compression happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly (WASM).
No Usage Tracking
We don't use Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel in the extension. Your usage habits remain private.
PayPal Protection
Payments are processed securely via PayPal. We never see, touch, or store your credit card or bank details.

GetWebP ("we", "us") is a local-first browser extension. This policy describes how we handle your data and why we request specific permissions.
Data Collection
We do not collect, store, or share any personal information. All image processing happens locally within your browser using WebAssembly.
Permission Usage
The following permissions are required for the core "Save as WebP" functionality. All access is user-initiated—we only act when you explicitly choose to convert an image.
- Context Menus: To add the "GetWebP - Save as WebP" option to your browser's right-click menu, allowing you to quickly convert specific images.
- Scripting & Host Permissions (`<all_urls>`): Required to access and fetch the specific image file you right-clicked on. We only access page content when you explicitly click "Save as WebP". We do not browse, read, or track your activity on any webpages otherwise.
- Downloads: To save the converted WebP image file directly to your computer's downloads folder.
- Offscreen: To perform image format conversion (re-encoding) in a background environment without freezing your active tab.
- Storage: To save your compression quality settings and user preferences locally.
- Side Panel: To display the main application interface for batch processing and settings.
- Notifications: To alert you when a download or conversion task is finished.
Third-Party Services
We use PayPal for payment processing (Pro License). Transactions are processed securely on PayPal's platform. We do not have access to your financial details.
